About the design

Temple Rebis draws inspiration from the realms of Alchemy, Geometry, and the celestial interplay between Planets, Color, Minerals, and the Seven Hermetic Principles. When viewed from above, its design mirrors both the alchemical symbol for the Sun and Matter. From a person's perspective, it stands as a monumental representation of the moon. The central sphere, towering at 50 feet in height with a 50 foot diameter, provides a grand gathering space featuring bleachers/stages and ample room for temple offerings. The central altar, an alchemical geometric representation of Mercury, Sulfur, Salt, Fire, Spirit, and Soul, serves as a beacon to the heavens, the fifth element, the all spirit.

The outer spheres create 4 smaller spaces for offerings, gatherings, and shade.  These 4 spaces represent the 4 directions, the 4 elements, and the sacred number of Hermes.

Twenty-eight altars separated in to 4 clusters of 7, encircle the temple, each crafted by a different artist. These altars symbolize the 28 phases of the moon, the seven metals, the seven planets, the seven Hermetic principles, and the seven Solfeggio frequencies of the universe.

Temple Rebis aims to leave a lasting impact on Burning Man. Its modular, symmetrical design encourages volunteers to actively participate in its assembly, fostering a shared sense of ownership in the artistic process.

Designed for offsite pre-builds in Nevada City and San Francisco, Temple Rebis ensures that every component is fabricated and tested before reaching the playa, guaranteeing a smooth on-site assembly.

Beyond its aesthetic allure, Temple Rebis prioritizes efficiency in assembly and transportation. Consciously considering the challenges of trucking to Burning Man, the modular elements allow for easy packing and transportation.

Temple Rebis epitomizes the collaborative spirit of Burning Man, inviting participants not only to actively contribute to its creation but also serving as a living testament to the principles of communal effort, self-expression, and participation that define the essence of the Burning Man experience.

  • We have begun conversations with Urban Machines to provide structural timbers and other materials for the project.  They are a cutting edge AI start up using robots and AI to reclaim lumber from deconstruction of commercial and residential buildings.  https://urbanmachine.build/

  • Proposed option to not burn the 28 alters and to use find a long term option for them.  they could be repurposed into off playa temples to be sent to interested parties properties.  Would require using exterior rated materials and a design strategy intended for ling term durability.  We would design removable panels on the interior to allow for temple offerings to be applied during the event.  We would then have a team remove and bring inside the temple to burn during the burn.
